'I don't know how this involves us!' - Celebrity doctor Nandipha Magudumana's father speaks to media

Johannesburg - High profile incarcerated celebrity doctor, Nandipha Magudumana's father, Sekeleni Zolile claims that his daughter is being used as a "scapegoat" and that she actually fears her ex-partner, convicted "Facebook rapist" Thabo Bester.

The celebrity aesthetics doctor is accused of being the mastermind in her ex-partner's escape from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemftontein, 2022.

She faces numerous chargers including assisting an inmate to escape from custody, violating a corpse, defeating the ends of justice and arson amongst some of her other charges.

According to eNCA Magudumana’s father says powerful people are responsible for Thabo Bester’s notorious prison break escape and insists she is being used as a scapegoat.

"...I could observe that there are so many people involved...and Nandipha got involved there, so Nandipha couldn't escape the web," he said.

"She is even scared now, although he [Thabo Bester] is in [Kgosi] Mampuru [Correctional Centre] and her in the Free State (Kroonstad Prison), but when you talk about that getaway, she even shivers and says 'I don't know how this involves us'.

"There is a scam. I think there are people and very high profile people who organised this and she had to be used as a scapegoat," said the co-accused.

Magudumana's father is one of the co-accused together with four more in the saga and he is currently out on bail of R10 000.

The main trial is scheduled to begin on the 20th of July 2026.
