'I am beyond grateful!' - Brandy Norwood honoured with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star

Johannesburg - Multi award-winning American singer and actress Brandy Norwood has been honoured with a coveted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Hollywood's Boulevard in Los Angeles, recently.

Clad in a black ensemble, the beaming songstress who is affectionately known as the vocal bible amongst her industry peers was accompanied by her parents to the ceremony, together with fellow actress Issa Rae and music producer Babyface.

She took to Instagram to pen a lengthy letter to show gratitude and appreciation to those who lit up her spark very early on in her musical journey and made her the global star that she has become.

"I am beyond grateful," she said.

"A star on the Walk of Fame is a definition of legacy. 

"I didn’t get here by myself.

"To every person who saw something in me before the world did. To every hand that reached for me when I was still reaching for myself. To every room that made space for me — and even the ones that didn’t. Thank you," said the Boy Is Mine hitmaker.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer actress went on to thank her family for instilling a firm foundation in her life and "to every mentor, collaborator, creative, and believer who poured into me along the way".

"To my family for the foundation. For the prayers, covering, and for loving me before this journey even existed," she said.


PHASES

She has recently penned a debut memoir, Phases, which hits the shelves on the 31st of March 2026.

"We all grow through seasons of becoming. In PHASES, I open my heart and share what each one taught me. I hope it meets you right where you are," said the one-time Grammy winner.

'Dr Leleti Khumalo!' - Seasoned actress Leleti Khumalo honoured with honourary Rhodes University Doctorate

Johannesburg - Veteran thespian Leleti Khumalo has been awarded an honourary Doctor of Laws (LLD) (honoris causa) from Rhodes University at their autumn graduation ceremony which took place recently in Makhanda formerly known as Grahamstown.

This milestone is in recognition of her contribution to the South African arts.

The Sarafina! lead actress took to Instagram recently to pen a lengthy letter thanking the prestigious academic institution for "seeing me. I still don’t have the words".

"Dr Leleti Khumalo," she said.

"Never in a million years did I ever think that would be my title.

"From a little girl in the dusty streets of Kwamashu to a holder of an honourary Doctor of Laws (LLD) (honoris causa) from Rhodes University in recognition of my profound contribution to South African theatre, film and television, and for my enduring role in using storytelling to illuminate the social realities of our country," said the revered actress.

A flood of congratulatory comments came from well established media personalities including Unathi Nkayi, Relebogile Mabotja, Melanie Bala, Zizo Tshwete, Somizi and Carol Bouwer amongst some who congratulated the award-winning Yesterday lead actress.

"Oh I could only dream, and now it’s a reality for little old me," she said.

'Grateful for life!' - Black Coffee turns 50

Johannesburg - It was a star studded celebratory event at Beau Constantia in the Mother City as multi-award winning House music DJ Nkosinathi "Black Coffee" Maphumulo celebrated his Jubilee year.

The Grammy award winner celebrated his 50th birthday in true opulence and luxury with an impressive guest list to match.

Amongst some of the attendees per IOL were American it-couple Alicia Keys and her husband Swizzbeatz together with their son, Somizi Mhlongo, Unathi Nkayi, DJ Maphorisa, Oscar Mbo, Fikile Mbalula, Oskido and more.

The critically acclaimed DJ's model girlfriend, Victoria Gonzalez stole the show with a heartfelt speech to her partner.

“Real love stories are not perfect; they stretch you, they challenge you and believe me, this man challenges me and stresses me every single day.... love is not about ever breaking; it’s about choosing each other again and again," qouted  Briefly.

Earlier the globally renowned DJ took to Instagram to pen himself an appreciation post for reaching five decades of life.

"50. Grateful for life, love, music, family, lessons, highs, lows and everything in between," he said.
