Johannesburg - Opinionated poet and musician Ntsiki Mazwai has called out the public's inaction in not protecting former president Jacob Zuma's embattled daughter Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla who is currently standing trial for two counts of  terrorism related charges in the Durban High Court.

The former president's daughter was arrested earlier in the year on a suspicion of inciting public violence through her social media posts relating to the 2021 July unrest in South Africa; she pleaded not guilty and was subsequently released on a warning pending a later trial which started last week.

The poet took to social media to express her stance on the controversial trial.

"Let's be honest about Dudu Zuma guys," she said.

"The reason you guys are not protecting her is because she's a black opinionated woman. And it's just really based on jealousy. Dudu didn't start the July unrest we all know this very well. We know that the actual cause of the July unrest is our president who arrested Jacob Zuma without a trial and it agitated the people who are already irritated.

"So now this scapegoating on a black girl is saying a lot about us and the only thing that's going to happen is that we're going to go deeper and deeper into this dark hole we are in as South Africa.

"We don't base things on principles, morals and values. We just allow the rich to do as they please," said the poet.

Zuma-Sambudla is currently on trial refuting the allegations through her defence lawyer advocate Dali Mpofu.
