Johannesburg - In a candid discussion on her radio show about rape, seasoned broadcaster Unathi Nkayi revealed an almost horrific incident of almost falling victim to rape; when she was a teenager, in the hands of a notorious gangster taxi driver in Gqeberha, formerly known as Port Elizabeth.

The 93.8 FM on-air personality shared her candid story of when she was in high school, grade 11, with a group of some of her schoolmates; they went on to a night club and she almost fell prey to sexual assault.

"Cola" — according to the broadcaster was a known serial rapist within the vicinity of the town who targeted young girls that he fancied at the time.

He would lure them into his minibus taxi — that he used as a public transport — to a secluded destination in Summerstrand, a residential suburb, where he would continue to assault them sexually.

The broadcaster said that she used her wits to coax the perpetrator psychologically against harming her.

"In 1995, I was in grade 11 at the time and we were partying in Port Elizabeth and there was a very famous gangster taxi driver.....one of his right-hand man came to fetch me from the club (took her to Cola at his request) we knew how violent 'Cola' was....

"Immediately when I got into his Kombi he child locked everything...and he said he wants to take me to 'Something Good' — we knew that's where he raped all these young Port Elizabeth girls...

"Once we got to 'Something Good' which is in Summerstrand that's when I started to psychologically talk to him....I realised that I had to speak to his psyche...eventually I psychologically managed to calm him down and he drove me back to the club... I appealed to his psyche," she said.
