Vulindlela is a four-part docu-series that delves into the rise and fall of the late mega super star, Brenda Fassie, who catapulted South African pop music onto the global stage.
The lead actress took to Instagram recently to allow her followers in on the behind-the-scenes of the exciting TV production.
"It took me 13 months to prepare for this role," she said.
"From gym to weight loss drips to personal trainers to Mediterranean diets.... you name it...whilst breastfeeding my darling ( Her toddler baby called Sky), dance and movement classes to voice coaches. All in faith that one day I shall be able to portray Brenda Nokuzola Fassie," said the actress.
Through some rare interviews from friends, family, collaborators, biographers and re-enactments led by Brenda Ngxoli portraying the late super star alongside fellow actor Sphamandla Dludlu as music producer Chicco Twala - the documentary portrays the "fearless spirit, the creative partnership that shaped her [Brenda Fassie] sound and the empowerment of a generation".
In reference to the late artist the actress describes how emotionally invested she immersed herself in the role.
"Your tears became mine. I stalked your associates like hell. Only a handful knew and God knows how freaked out I was. You were and Still are The GOAT (Greatest Of All Time). Halala Yem-yem Sophitsho (Brenda Fassie's Clan names)," she said.
Vulindlela airs on SABC one at 20:00 pm on Saturdays.
