Johannesburg - You might remember her as that young, charismatic and eloquently outspoken 19-year-old who presented a one-of-its-kind African travel TV show in South Africa around the mid to late 2000's on SABC one.
The show Precious Africa was something quite uncommon in South Africa at the time, documenting people from all across Africa; their plights and triumphs through adversity, their daily struggles, small victories, the general stigma and stereotypes that the African continent was faced with - the overall crucial realities of the everyday African people.
A concept she conceptualised and pitched to the public broadcaster which ultimately got commissioned through her small-time start-up TV production company - Kofi Productions - and her as the sole producer.
Kofi laid bare the common African strife, exploded myths and shattered stereotypes in peoples’ homes every week night.
"We had so many different cultures and people from different African countries. I was exposed and curious and wanted to follow that curiosity," she said to News24.
“Best travel show ever done in the continent. We watched and listened not only with our eyes and ears, but also with our hearts and souls. This was one of the reasons why I started doing the work I do today,” said a follower on Instagram.
Where is Precious Kofi?
Fast-forward a few years later, the Capetonian has emigrated, divorced and has settled into the United States of America (USA) where she is raising her two children from her lost marriage to an American who is simply known as Mr. Schamel - not much is known surrounding the details of their marriage.
She is currently invested in her private life and running her coaching business - Precious Africa Coaching - where she shares lessons learnt through her divorce and how to overcome the challenges that are due to marriage.
“I entered marriage ill-prepared,” she told IOL.
Kofi coaches over 16000 subscribers on her YouTube channel about mental wellness.
"It all started with my YouTube channel where I created one video, just haphazardly with lessons I had learnt within my marriage and how I wanted to share these lessons so other women don't make them within their marriages," quotes News24.
“That video quickly got 250 000 views. That was the beginning of my business because people reached out to me asking for information and advice on how to communicate better in marriage and not to lose yourself in marriage. That's how I built my business. That has been a transformative part of my coaching," she said.
Subsequent to Precious Africa Coaching the now USA based expat teamed up with fellow South African media personality, Bonnie Mbuli - who is also now pursuing a career in the USA - to host their very own podcast.
