The broadcaster took to Instagram to announce the passing of her mother without divulging the close details of her death.
"This morning at 6am, my world shifted forever," she said.
"My mother, Promise Sibongile Imelda Khumalo took her final breath at home. She was not only my mother — she was a soldier, a freedom fighter, a truth-teller, a revolutionary spirit carved by purpose," said the fierce broadcaster.
She said that her mother gave up her childhood due to circumstances of the oppression regime in South Africa at the time to go train as a fully-fledged military member of the African National Congress' (ANC) Umkhonto Wesizwe (the military wing of the ANC).
"After bravely standing in the Soweto Uprising as a young student, she left South Africa at just 14 years old to receive military training through uMkhonto Wesizwe. She gave her entire life to the liberation of South Africa," she said.
The African National Congress acknowledged the broadcaster's mother through a statement and extended its condolences.
"The ANC mourns the passing of Comrade Sibongile Khumalo known in the struggle as Patricia Promise Lamula, a loyal MK soldier, Radio Freedom communication commissar and lifelong servant of the people who worked with humility and dedication in the public service.
"We extend heartfelt condolences to her daughter, Masechaba and the Khumalo family," read the statement.
